Extreme Ownership stood out to me because it reinforces that true leadership begins with taking responsibility rather than making excuses. My Review

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin was a great reminder that leadership starts with taking responsibility. One of the biggest takeaways for me is that great leaders don't look for someone else to blame when things go wrong, they own the outcome, learn from it, and focus on improving the team. That mindset really resonated with me because I believe leadership is about setting the standard and leading by example every day. Working in the multifamily industry, we're constantly balancing resident satisfaction, financial performance, team development, and owner expectations. It's easy to point to market conditions, staffing challenges, or other obstacles, but this book challenges leaders to ask, "What could I have done differently to help my team succeed?" That shift in perspective creates stronger accountability and better results. As a Regional, I found the lessons on communication, prioritizing what matters most, and developing leaders within your team especially valuable. The book reinforced that the best leaders build trust, empower others to make decisions, and create a culture where everyone is accountable. I believe these principles are essential for building high-performing teams and delivering exceptional results in today's multifamily industry.

Multifamily Takeaways 

I will continue to lead by example, take ownership of challenges, and focus on solutions instead of excuses. I also want to coach my Community Directors to be confident in making decisions and understand that it's okay to make mistakes, as long as we learn from them and continue to grow. I'll continue to emphasize cross-training and empowering our teams so they can make decisions, support one another, and operate successfully without relying on one person. Building leaders at every level will create stronger teams, improve the resident experience, and drive better results for our communities.
