The annual 5 Star Safety Awards celebrate the 5 Star Safety Certified properties that go above and beyond to be a champion of increased community safety.

  • Did your property prioritize the safety of your residents and launch a new safety initiative?
  • Do you have a team member who saved the day or helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation?
  • Maybe you threw an AMAzing Project S.A.F.E. safety social that deserves to be recognized!

Tell us all about it by entering the 5 Star Safety Awards! To enter a nomination for the 5 Star Awards participating properties must have enrolled in and successfully completed the 5 Star Certification program. Entries are completely free, and you may enter into as many of the below categories as you would like. The Awards will be held at an AMA Dinner Meeting of the following year (typically in February). There are separate competitions and award ceremonies for Phoenix and Tucson and their respective surrounding areas.

Eligibility:

  • The property you are enrolling under must be an active AMA member.
  • All dues and registration fees must be paid.
  • Property must have enrolled in the current year's AMA 5 Star Safety Certification Program by 8/31 and completed all of the necessary requirements for certification or renewal by 11/30 of the corresponding year. See below to learn more about the 5 Star Certification Program and to enroll.

Take the first step to becoming a 5 Star Safety Award winning property by enrolling the 5 Star Safety Certification Program! Designed to reduce criminal activity, improve safety, as well as unite community organizations and individuals, the 5 Star Certification program is the ultimate way to demonstrate your property's elevated commitment to fostering safer communities. As an AMA 5 Star Certified Community, you set yourself apart from other rental properties by holding yourself to a higher standard of management practices, customer caring and neighborhood involvement - a distinction to truly be proud of!

How To Complete Your Stars:

Click on each of the drop-downs below to learn more about completing each Star in the 5 Star Safety Certification and Awards Program. Before getting started, make sure to register by 8/31/26. Do this Star first! (All other stars may be completed in an order that is convenient for you.) View the On-Demand 5 Star Orientation Session and collect proof of viewing by August 31.* (Link to Orientation video will be provided after registration and will only be available to watch until 8/31. Orientation is cut off early, because participants must view the video with enough time to learn about next steps to successfully complete the whole program in time for the November 30 deadline. (Instructions for submitting proof of viewing will be included in the Orientation video.)

Enroll in and complete the first phase of your city's Crime Free Multi-housing (CFMH) program. Enrollment is through your city's police department.

(Please note that as of 2024, Gilbert's Crime-free "Lite" program will no longer be accepted for Star #2 of the 5 Star Program. Please sign up for neighboring community's CFMH program.)

If your city does not have a CFMH program, you may attend a neighboring community's program. Requirement must be met before November 30th*. 

*You'll need to submit a current CFMH certificate with your Final 5 Star Application. CFMH certificates are generally valid for 3 years, so you'll only need to do this step if you don't already have a current CFMH certificate.

Attend two Community Coalition Meetings before November 30th. AMA offers 14 different groups that meet across the Phoenix Valley area, Tucson, Casa Grande, Sierra Vista and more! Any stars achieved during the calendar year will count towards that year's certification. All participants who successfully achieve all of their Stars will receive a certification of completion and recognition at AMA's annual 5 Star Awards in February of the following year. 

* You must re-apply and complete all stars each year to keep your certification current.
